How it works

Three steps from questions to an action plan

Answer for how testing actually works today, not how it is meant to work. The result is only as useful as the answers are honest.

1

Choose the scope

Assess a single project or program, or testing across the whole organization or a business unit.

2

Rate 50 practices

Each practice gets a score from 0 (not in place) to 4 (fully in place). Questions are grouped by maturity level.

3

Get your report

See your current level, how each practice area scores, and the actions that move you to the next level.

Maturity levels

Five levels, each built on the one below

You reach a level only when its practice areas, and every practice area below it, are at least established.

Your report

What you get at the end

Current maturity level

Where you stand on the five-level scale, and what the next level asks for.

Practice area scores

All 16 areas scored and rated, with every individual practice visible.

  • Each answer converts to 0–100%. A practice area takes the average of its practices.
  • A practice area can’t be Established or Strong while any of its practices is Not in place.
  • A level is reached when all its practice areas, and all lower ones, are Established or Strong.
